In a release by the University of Nebraska, Chancellor Ronnie Green has dismissed Nebraska Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst, effective immediately.
Green, in his remarks about Eichorst, stated the following:
“Shawn has led Nebraska Athletics in many positive ways, but those efforts have not translated into on-field performance. Our fans and our student-athletes deserve leadership that drives the highest levels of competitiveness, as well as excellence across all facets of Husker Athletics.”
Eichorst was picked by Harvey Perlman back in October 2012 to replace outgoing AD Tom Osborne. Osborne had originally considered Jamie Williams to replace him, but Perlman quickly hired Eichorst before TO could do his thing.
Shawn Eichorst had the following statement:
“While I am deeply disappointed in the decision today, I am grateful for the wonderful years that my family and I have spent at Nebraska. I am proud of how our student-athletes, coaches and staff represented this great university and state, and I am confident that the future is bright for Nebraska Athletics.”
Eichorst was the man responsible for dismissing former Nebraska football Head Coach Bo Pelini, and also hiring Mike Riley. The Husker football team just lost to Northern Illinois on Saturday, pushing its record to 1-2 on the year. The football team is 3-7 in its last 10 games.
There was no announcement for a interim AD, nor a timetable on hiring another new AD for the school. Green will have a press conference at 2:30 this afternoon.
