Good Wednesday morning Corn Nation!

You probably read Brian’s article yesterday about Husker football schedules for 2020 and 2021. They, GASP, do not include Black Friday football to end the regular season.

We all knew Iowa was not thrilled with the Friday date when the Huskers joined the Big Ten and it appears those heathens to the east got their way. Not only did they weasel their way out of playing on Black Friday, but are not our “rival” anymore. The Huskers close out the 2020 and 2021 seasons with Minnesota. (Which moves their traditional rivalry game against Wisconsin for Paul Bunyan’s Axe to a different weekend). Maybe the Big Ten has finally accepted the fact that the Broken Chair is the greatest trophy in the history of everything!

Or maybe they are trying to make the Quadrangle of Hate into a rivalry orgy. (I guess I’m not the only one who thinks so, I found this as I was finishing up Flakes this morning Big Ten West trophy games: 4-way rivalry becoming more of a thing - SBNation.com)

Rivalries are born out of hate and respect and shared experiences in which only one side gets what they want but the other side thinks they deserve. Taking away the sacred Black Friday game adds one log to the fire with Iowa. I am sure over time, the rest of the Quadrangle of Hate will all have rivalry fires stoked equally well, even without football on Black Fridays.

So, what do you think? Are you okay with no more Black Friday games? What excuse will you use to get out of Black Friday shopping now? (Other than it is a ridiculous exercise in consumerism that Americans have elevated to such a high art that it has become satire.)
