Thorir Thorbjarnarson, say his name three times fast. I dare you to get it right the first time. Thank goodness I get to write this and not say it over the airwaves. Anyway, he is the Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s basketball team’s newest recruit from the great northern island of Iceland.
Why are we recruiting from Iceland? Maybe Coach Miles was inspired by this past weeks Crossfit Games and decided to go to Iceland to pick up some super freakish talent for the squad. Not sure what his dead lift is or how many burpees he can do yet.

Thorir (who I understand goes by Thor) is a left handed 6’6” 190 lb kid from Akureyri, Iceland who can come in and play immediately for the Huskers this upcoming season. Little is known about the recruit but he has a pretty decent game from what little video is out there of him.
2017 6'6 Icelandic wing Thorir Thorbjanrson committed to Tim Miles at Nebraska. Smart, versatile, creative 2-way guy https://t.co/YaFrdGM5bZ

Thorir played in Icleand’s FIBA U20 team averaging 7.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
It will be interesting to see how well he transitions to the American game as many foreign players can struggle at first. Hopefully he is a quick learner and can pick up on our system early enough to be an impact player during the season.
Honestly, I’m just looking forward to hearing how the local media pronounces his name going forward.
This commit brings the 2018 recruiting class up to 3 with 4 more slots to fill. One offer to think about is the offer to Platteview Center Brady Heiman, who stands at 6”10, but only weighs 200 pounds.
The Huskers offered Heiman on Sunday. Monday, Creighton offered.... but with a catch:
Creighton offered Platteview post Brady Heiman, but he would have to attend a year of post graduate or prep school. https://t.co/nUpdEHsXSu pic.twitter.com/87nsnMHkm3

If Heiman doesn’t want to reclassify to the class of 2019, then he’s probably not going to entertain that Creighton offer much. Don’t be surprised if Heiman acts on that Nebraska offer sooner than later.
