The Nebraska athletic department apparently decided that they didn’t want to be left out of the fun month that June is, and so they have decided to fill it with festivals. There will be three whole festivals this month right outside Memorial Stadium, each on Friday at Happy Hour time.

The first fan fest is set for next Friday, June 16, followed by the second event on Friday, June 23 and the third fan fest on Friday, June 30. All three approximately two-hour events will begin at 5 p.m. and will take place outside Memorial Stadium on Stadium Drive, the street immediately adjacent to the west side of the stadium. Stadium Drive will be closed to automobile traffic during the event, providing a safe and spacious area for fans of all ages.

  • Highlights of the fan fests will include:
  • Free Amigos, Chick-fil-A, Hy-Vee, Kona Ice, Mr. Goodcents, Pepsi, Valentino's & more
  • Free inflatable games
  • Free balloon artists
  • Free face painting
  • Free giveaways
  • Appearance by Nebraska Head Coach Mike Riley (June 16 & June 23 events only)
  • Appearances by former Husker football players (all three events)
  • Access to Memorial Stadium during & following the events (field access on June 30 only)
  • Ability to purchase 2017 Nebraska football season tickets
  • Free 2017 Nebraska football schedule cards
  • Ability to purchase Nebraska souvenirs and apparel
  • Photos with the Husker Helicopter, Husker-wrapped team buses and trophies

All of this should lead you to ask - WHERE ARE THE CHEERLEADERS?

No, really. Don’t they have summer cheerleaders?

This is a really good idea by the athletic department. Seriously, it is. Not only does it keep fans from discovering other entertainment options besides Husker football, but it gives Husker fans the ability to further indoctrinate their children past the point they already have.

It’s a good idea because it provides entertainment and after everyone is done attending the fan Fest they can go over to the Haymarket area and have some adult beverages and good food and support Lincoln businesses. Who’s not for that?

BOB STOOPS IS RETIRING!

The moment this was announced, social media ran rampant speculation about what the real meaning was behind it. Certainly Stoops was retiring because there was more to the story. Certainly something going on at Oklahoma that caused his retirement.

Let me ask you a question. If you are in your mid-50s, have had a hellacious career, and had the financial wherewithal to retire without having to work again would you not take it?

College football is a profession in which you will always be wrong and someone will always be kvetching about your performance. There are no real vacation days, there is not much time with your family, and not much time to do anything else.

I am surprised that more college football coaches don’t say the hell with it and retire at an earlier age.

Alex Honnold Climbs Yosemite's El Capitan Without a Rope

Renowned rock climber Alex Honnold on Saturday became the first person to scale the iconic nearly 3,000-foot granite wall known as El Capitan without using ropes or other safety gear, completing what may be the greatest feat of pure rock climbing in the history of the sport.

Good grief this is amazing.
