Simmons, a LB out of Fort Pierce, Florida, was working with the third-string defense mostly throughout spring camp.
Simmons spent last season mostly working on the scout team defense. Simmons was injured in a scrimmage halfway through the fall camp period last year, being carted off for a jammed neck inside Memorial Stadium.
Simmons was likely not going to be able to see the field in the near future unless it was for special teams. You had players ahead of him at inside linebacker like Avery Roberts, Mohammed Barry, and other incoming players like Willie Hampton and Andrew Ward.
Simmons originally chose Nebraska over schools like Miami, Indiana, Kentucky and Louisville, among other places.
We wish him well in his future endeavors.
