Huskers look to push win streak to 7

After a solid midweek shutout at Creighton, the Nebraska Baseball team returns home to host the Michigan State Spartans. The Spartans travel to Nebraska for the first time since the Huskers joined the conference.

Tonight, the Huskers will have a lineup without Jake Meyers or Mojo Hagge. Joe Acker gets the start in center, while Alex Raburn will be the DH while Scott Schreiber moves into right field.

Michigan State started the season hot, racing out to a league best 9-1 start. Over their past 35 games Michigan State is just 17-18, while only defeating one team in the RPI top 100.

The Spartans are 5-4 away from home in Big Ten play, sweeping Illinois and taking a series at Northwestern. The Spartans were swept in dominate fashion against Maryland in College Park.

Tonight, the Spartans send out two way player Alex Troop to the hill. Troop is a premier prospect according to most scouts, mainly as a pitcher. He has 6 wins and 3 losses on the year, while pitching to a 2.57 earned run average.

While Troop is a standout on the hill, he rakes at the plate, ranking fourth on the Spartans, with a .325 average. Ahead of Troop are Bryce Kelley, Brandon Hughes, and Chad Roskelly who all bat well above .300.

Riley McCauley is the closer, and boy does he rack up the strikeouts. McCauley has 33 strikeouts in just 17.1 innings pitched. In front of McCauley is workhorse Walter Borkavich who has thrown 48 innings on the year with a 2.25 ERA.
