After upsetting ninth ranked Arizona on Sunday, the Nebraska Cornhuskers return home to start their 16th season at Haymarket Park. Nebraska will play host to the Northern Colorado Bears for a pair of midweek contests.
Nebraska and Northern Colorado have met 49 times, with the Huskers holding a 43-6 mark against the Bears. Last season, the Huskers swept the Bears 8-1 and 7-0 to extend their current winning streak to four games in the series.
Darin Erstad will send Matt Waldron (0-2, 4.72) out on Tuesday against the Northern Colorado lineup that has a much more formidable look. The Bears have hit 17 home runs as a team. Led by the trio of Jack Pauley, Cole Maltese, and Evan Johnson the Bears hit .272 as a team.
On the mound, Northern Colorado has announced Justin Mulvaney (0-0, 5.40) as the starter on Tuesday. The Huskers have not seen Mulvaney in his career.
The Bears are not deep on the mound. They will look to work a variety of pitchers, same as the Huskers. Anthony Brady, Sam Leach, and Zach Heath are the Bears best pitchers, combining to allow nine hits in 21.1 innings pitched. If the Bears get a lead, Brady will serve as the closer.
For the Huskers, Scott Schreiber has had success in his career against Northern Colorado. Schreiber combined to hit three home runs in last years series against the Bears. With a strong wind expected to be blowing out to right field, Schreiber could find success again.
Neither team has announced a starting pitcher for Wednesday. For Nebraska, expect someone possibly like Byron Hood or Jake McSteen to get the start.
