Nebraska Football: Outside Linebacker Willie Hampton Is Officially A Cornhusker

The Palm Beach, Florida native is ready to find out where he fits with the new Nebraska 3-4 defense

When Willie Hampton committed to Trent Bray and the Nebraska Cornhuskers all the way back on March 9, many people thought that his recruitment would blow up, but that didn’t end up being the case. He has sent his letter of intent into Lincoln, and will be a member of the team this coming fall.

Hampton, who hails from West Palm Beach, Florida, transferred to American Heritage High School last season. He is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the 70th-best outside linebacker in the 2017 cycle, and the 152nd-best player in the state of Florida.

Besides Nebraska, Hampton sported offers only from Western Michigan, Florida Atlantic and Central Florida.

Expectation: In the Mark Banker setup, Hampton was going to probably redshirt and get to find his spot in the linebacking crew. However, the Bob Diaco 3-4 set will kind of open the door and see if Hampton can be on the field faster. It’s not a need for Nebraska unless someone like a Freedom or Marcus Newby or such can’t embrace this role.
