Nebraska Basketball: Michigan State 86 Nebraska 57

Nebraska came into this game with the odds against them. Michigan State is good, really good. Heck, two of their starting five were on the preseason all Big Ten team. Anyone going against that will have a uphill climb. The Huskers had just that.

No matter how hard Nebraska tried they could not match up well against a stacked Michigan State squad. They lost 86-57 on a very nice Sunday afternoon in East Lansing.

It wasn’t just Michigan State that doomed the Huskers. Poor shooting from the get go plagued the big red the entire night. Let these numbers sink in. Nebraska shot just 27.4% from the field and 65% from the free throw line. This is a huge drop from their win against Boston College just a few days ago where they shot almost 50% on the night. Though, they did shot 45% in three point land which wasn’t too bad for the team.

The hole they dug for themselves was brought on early as the Nebraska missed 17 of their first 20 shots. With that said, the Spartans are most likely one of the better defensive teams Nebraska could face this year. Since Stony Brook scored 71 on them early on in the season, the highest scoring team against MSU has been Notre Dame with 63 points. #9 UNC has problems only scoring 45 in their matchup just a couple of weeks ago.

Nebraska was lead by Jesse Palmer Jr. who was the only starter who ended the night in double digit points. The guard ended the night with 15 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds. He was followed by Evan Taylor who had 8 points and 5 rebounds.

Isaiah Roby and Anton Gill both came of the bench and contributed 7 points a piece in a game that saw 13 Huskers on the court.

The Huskers come back to Lincoln on Tuesday to take on #12 Minnesota. This will be game #2 in the “Husker December Death March”.
