Another week, another “Freshman of the Week” honor for the 6’5” center, Kate Cain. It seems like only yesterday that another Husker freshman frontcourt player was dusting the competition in garnering FOTW awards.
That player, Jess Shepard, is now making noise at perennial power Notre Dame after transferring from Nebraska. While Shepard was climbing the record books here in the Husker state, she was a mismatch in Amy Williams’ program. It appears to be one of those rare “everyone wins” situations. Shepard found a home at a school that sends quite a few players to the WNBA. Cain found an opening to play immediately after her original choice, Delaware, fired their coaching staff.
The Husker women open conference play this Thursday in Lincoln as they take on defending conference co-champs Ohio State. Tipoff is at 7 pm CST.
