Nebraska Basketball: Huskers Snare Red Foxes 84-59

Nebraska takes down a winless Marist in the Advocare Invitational

NCAA Basketball: Nebraska at Iowa Reese Strickland-USA TODAY Sports

Whatever hangover from last nights loss to UCF was gone as Nebraska beat up on Maris 84 to 59. The Red Foxes came out and scored first but their success was short lived as Nebraska stepped on the gas and didn’t look back.

It was a nice win after the blowout loss to the University of Central Florida the night before. No scoring drought would bring the team down tonight. Marist came into the game with an 0-4 record on the year. However they did hang with West Virginia last night in a 84-78 loss.

Issac Copeland had a big night for the big red going 8 of 12 from the field. He ended the night with 17 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots.

Behind Copeland who also started the game was fellow transfer Jesse Palmer Jr. who had 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Coming off the bench with a big night was Anton Gill. The 6’3” senior had a season high 17 points and 3 assists. 14 of his 17 came in the first half and was 5 of 7 from beyond the arch. He was almost untouchable shooting as he went 75% from the field.

The Huskers as a team shot 57%. A big jump from the night before against the Knights when they shot a dismal 34%.

The win brings Nebraska to 4-2 on the season. The Huskers will now play Long Beach state Sunday at 1:00 pm CST in Orlando for fifth place in the tournament.
