Nebraska is leading Fresno State 14-10 at half.
15 of 16 the plays for Nebraska in the first quarter were runs for 76 yards on the ground. The sole pass was from Armstrong to Stanley Morgan Jr for 11 yards for a first down.
Fresno State did well on their first possession but a missed a 32-yard field goal.
Nebraska’s first scoring drive was a one yard dive by Devine Ozigbo on a drive that consumed 6:25 minutes for 80 yards on 13 plays.
On the next possession, a short punt and a favorable bounce gave Nebraska the ball on the Fresno State 38-yard line. Four plays later, the Ozigbo scored again to put the Huskers up 14-0.
It looked like a rout might be on, but a blocked punt set up Fresno State for their first score, a seven yard TD reception to Aaron Peck, making it 14-7 Nebraska with 5:38 left in second quarter.
Nebraska stopped Fresno State on a drive late in the second quarter as Chason Virgil’s pass sailed incomplete on third and 13, but Nebraska’s Luke Gifford hit Virgin a step late and was called for roughing with targeting. The call was upheld. Gifford was ejected for targeting.
Fresno State kicked a field goal to end the half and make the score 14-10.
