Nebraska’s List Of Official Visitors For The Illinois Game

Another big time weekend in North Stadium for recruiting!

The fact that the Nebraska coaching staff will have used almost half of their official visits by the end of this weekend is amazing. Especially with this slate of home games, where the staff has filled up 3 of the 4 home games and all that didn’t start at 11am.

It’s a big non-committed target weekend for the staff, especially with WR coach Keith Williams returning and two of the top targets coming in this weekend being wide receivers.

It’s also not lost on the fact that after this weekend, Nebraska has had 3 five-star kids on campus. That hasn’t happened in a while, to hell with whom has ever been coaching at Nebraska.

It’s time to talk who is visiting and where Nebraska is sitting with each one. As always, the caveat that this list is fluid & can either increase or decrease at anytime before Saturday is in play.

The top target on the board is of course Lewis, who has the biggest star power on the board. This makes the third time that Lewis has visited the campus, which (in my eyes) puts Nebraska near the lead on this one, Crystal Ball be damned. It could also be due to the two/three schools that Nebraska is chasing here are in down times.

Don’t discount the fact that Williams is back on the sidelines for this one. Lewis and his coaches got along with KW during the preseason trip to Lincoln for them. Yes, it was on the weekend that KW got busted for DUI, but if Lewis, his parents & coaches were swayed, they wouldn’t be coming back in October of all days.

Lewis would be wanting to start almost immediately where ever he goes. That’s feasible at Nebraska with the loss of Alonzo Moore, Brandon Reilly and Jordan Westerkamp to graduation after this season.

The surprise of this visit day is the Iowa verbal who is the schoolmate of fellow Nebraska target Damion Daniels from Bishop Dunne in Dallas. The fact that Calloway is visiting period means flat out that either his verbal to Iowa is null & void, or Kirk really doesn’t feel like holding Chevin to the no-visit clause. ‘

Calloway isn’t a slouch, as he’s the 11th best corner in the 247sports composite this cycle.

Iowa folks are swearing that Chevin is just getting Daniels to Iowa, but the fact that Damion pushed his OV back and this visit gives me my doubts. I’m not saying that Calloway is a lock to Nebraska, as it sounds like he wants to make a few more stops along the way to Arkansas and Texas.

When you’re the 8th best cornerback in the 247sports composite, you tend to have a lot of choices. The fact that Nebraska is getting out first with Jaylon is big, considering that he’s good friends with Lamar Jackson, a kid who is playing early and can sell that to Johnson too. Johnson plans on taking more visits to Utah and Oklahoma later on before making a decision. Even with that, the Huskers can get out in front big time and make folks play catch up.

When Rahyme decommitted from UCLA back in May, this was the visit everyone watching his recruitment was waiting for. Many thought that he would pull the trigger quickly after visiting back this summer, but he wants Mom to come see things on this trip. Johnson plans on seeing Florida and Texas A&M in November.

There’s a thought of taking his OV to Florida after the season, but one has to wonder if the numbers game of Nebraska’s spots could help the Huskers gets a verbal sooner than later.

Isaiah Hodgins is an interesting thought to me, in that this could be the fallback just in case Jamire Calvin becomes a Notre Dame verbal. If Calvin, Hodgins and Joseph Lewis verbaled, who do you tell no thanks? That’s a great problem to have, but not if it affects you in some other spot.

Considering that Oregon and Oregon State are also in the running here, Mike Riley could be using the angle of knowing what they have in Corvallis and the win vs. the Ducks for his benefit here.

Two Nebraska verbals are coming this weekend as well:

—--——

That’s 7 visitors for the weekend, which as mentioned above, would take Nebraska near half of their allotted visitors for the year with 25 visits out of 56 used. 16 of those visits have been used on non-committed kids, with Deiontae Watts being the only kid committing during his OV so far this year.

I don’t know if that number will increase this weekend. Of course, I would like that to happen, and I suppose it’s possible with both Rahyme and Jaylon Johnson. However, don’t be upset if that’s not the case.

That being said, an old friend of the Nebraska 2017 class will be there, doing his damnedest to help the cause.

UPDATE: Key bringing a friend along with him.
