Big Red Cobcast: Happy Fifth of July!

We celebrate July V by talking about Robert Porcher IV, Andrew White III, and Friday Night Lights I.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Let's be honest. Nobody wants to write an article on the 4th of July. And I'm certain even fewer people want to read one on the 5th. Your eyes are throbbing. The stale taste of beer is mixing with the taste of bile in the back of your throat. Your butthole feels like it could fall out at any minute.

At least in both cases, there's a silver lining. In your case, you get to soothe your hangover with the dulcet tones and blisteringly hot takes from Mike and myself. In my case, I get to refine and clarify any of those said hot take after the podcast was recorded. Normally, Ryan writes these, so once I say something stupid or pointless on the podcast, it's written in stone. Not today, bastards.

Mike and I ran through a million topics, but the one that mattered to me the most (Nebrasketball) was also the one that mattered the least to Mike, so we didn't hang onto it very long. Here's the thing that continues to bother me about the Andrew White III transfer (besides the fact that we lost our top returning scorer and I now want to cry at the mere thought of another wasted season). The thought that keeps lingering is that Benny Parker, a four-year letter-winner who scrapped and clawed for every minute of playing time and represented everything right about the scarlet and cream, gave up his number during his senior year. For a guy who ultimately ended up playing one year and didn't inform anyone in Lincoln that he was planning on leaving until it was too late to sign anyone to replace him.

College athletes get the shaft a lot, and they ultimately have to do what's best for them. Lord knows coaches do. But the giant dump that White took on Benny Parker's gesture leave me with nothing but a sour taste in my mouth.

So now that we're caught up on that little opinionated nugget, let's get to the podcast. And for God's sake, get yourself some aspirin and Gatorade.
