Corn Flakes: Where Are We, Again?

There’s news, but it’s really not all that interesting.

Pillars

Mid July.

This is the toughest time of year. I’d normally go back and watch start watching the previous season’s games on DVR about now, partially because I’m bored and partially to refresh my memory about what happened and who did what.

This year it seems like more of a requirement than before because between the heart attack and the brain injury, I really don’t remember much of last September or October.

How are you spending your time now? Outdoors? Indoors?

Westerkamp: Football Team Honored to Support Kids' Cause - Huskers.com - Nebraska Athletics Official Web Site

Sunday morning’s Uplifting Athletes Road Race, which helps youth like Jack Hoffman and countless others throughout the state and beyond, is one of the best values in Nebraska. Take that piece of advice straight from Keith Zimmer, who has worked for Nebraska Athletics for three decades and is the Huskers’ senior associate athletic director for Life Skills and the N Club.

Receiving Records in Reach for Jordan Westerkamp | Hail Varsity

Rodgers ranks second to Bell in career-receiving yards, and Westerkamp is in position to pass them both this season. Rodgers ranks third, behind Bell and Nate Swift, in career receptions, and Westerkamp needs 53 catches to pass all three. He also could conceivably break Rodgers’ career record for consecutive games with at least one reception – 37.

Can Jordan Westerkamp become Nebraska’s greatest receiver? He might set records, but Johnny Rodgers was part of two national titles, won a Heisman, and had a host full of other accolades.

It’ll be fun to see how well Westerkamp and his counterpart Brandon Reilly do this season. Maybe Westerkamp can become Nebraska’s first 1,000 yard per season receiver and get that monkey off our back.

Burroughs Thankful, Blessed, Ready to Make History - Huskers.com - Nebraska Athletics Official Web Site

A few minutes after Saturday night’s spirited Jordan Burroughs sendoff to Rio de Janeiro in Lincoln’s Railyard/Cube Haymarket Area, America’s 2012 Olympic gold medalist wrestler was still smiling, cooperating and encouraging whoever was willing to climb the stage and wish him well.

Michigan State among most disrespected college football programs - The Only Colors

Michigan State tends to get slighted when it comes to the attention it deserves, and CBS Sports recognizes this.

Poor Sparty. I hope we continue to demoralize them in whatever sports in which we meet.

Wisconsin football preview 2016: Maturing offensive line primed for greater performance - Bucky's 5th Quarter

After an uncharacteristic season in Madison, expect the offensive line to take charge in 2016.

Or not. Maybe they’ll just fall down and go boom, gaining a measly 2.5 yards a carry all season. I would not cry should this happen.

Baylor Sexual Assault Report Produces Punishment, but No Paper Trail - The New York Times

The former Baylor president Kenneth W. Starr complained that he had never seen it. Baylor’s alumni association called for its release. The Big 12 Conference has asked for it — twice. But there is one problem. It — a written report of an investigation conducted by an outside law firm in the wake of several sexual assault allegations and convictions involving Baylor football players — does not exist.

Good job, Baylor! Maybe you’ve saved yourself from lawsuits by anchoring the blame on Ken Starr and Art Briles, but... will you ever really change?

In five years, will I once again be asking, would you send your daughter to the “hide beyond Christianity as a shield” shithole of a university in Waco, Texas?
