Corn Flakes: The Pac-12 And Twitter - Future For BTN?

Pac-12 Networks Announces Live Streaming Partnership with Twitter | Pac-12

Pac-12 Networks announced today that Twitter will be its premier streaming partner for Pac-12 Plus, a broadband network of live events produced by the conference’s 12 universities, with at least 150 games over the 2016-2017 academic year live streamed to fans on Twitter.

I found this interesting. I realize that they’re not going to stream football or basketball over twitter, and at this point you wouldn’t expect them to. There’s no indication of any money exchanging hands between the Pac 12 and Twitter, although you’d think there would have to be. The events they will stream include school-produced "Olympic sports" such as:

soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, baseball, ice hockey, swimming & diving, softball, track & field, wrestling, lacrosse, tennis, and water polo.

It will increase their exposure of these events, and isn’t that the point in the first place?

The Big Ten currently covers some of these sports by televising them on BTN, but supplements that with BTN Plus, which requires a subscription. Nebraska televises more sports inside the state of Nebraska on NET, and then supplements that with HuskersNSide which also requires a subscription.

Despite all this coverage, every season we hear complaints that there is not nearly enough baseball being shown, or asking why BTN can’t use a second channel to show whatever game we might be missing at the time.

Is Twitter streaming something that the Big Ten might look at? Doubtful, given that the Big Ten has already built their network while the Pac-12 is still in process.

At some point the Big Ten will need to figure out what they’re going to do with a streaming option of all their content, and by that I mean, one that doesn’t require a subscription through a cable or satellite provider, but we’re not at that point yet.

Nick Saban, Paul Finebaum, and the Monroe Police Department: What really happened? - Roll 'Bama Roll

What really happened? Saban gets upset, Finebaum stretches the truth, and some Monroe cops are starting to look a bit suspicious.

I find it hard to believe that none of the regular SEC media folks asked Nick Saban about Cam Robinson either. It’s not like you’re dealing with a hardened gangster who’s gonna put you in concrete overshoes and throw you in the river.

If Paul Finebaum is the one that’s showing any backbone here, how can we expect the SEC to be taken seriously?

Mandel's Mailbag: Missing Steve Spurrier at SEC Media Days | FOX Sports

All those great off-the-field achievements under his watch still happened, but so did a horrible failure in leadership that helped enable a pedophile. It's not an either-or legacy, as much as we're conditioned in sports to pick one side over the other.

Why Weren't Nick Saban and Butch Jones Questioned Like Dan Mullen Was? - For Whom the Cowbell Tolls

The media members at SEC Media Days were right to question Dan Mullen in the way that they did. But why did they fail to do that for Nick Saban and Butch Jones?

Mississippi State's Mullen botches domestic violence issue at SEC meetings | FOX Sports

On Monday, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey made a point of saying his conference has been "a national leadership position on this issue," before acknowledging there is still more work to be done. Some of that work apparently includes working with his coaches on how they speak about these issues.
