What an ugly day for the top teams in the Big Ten Baseball tourney.
Minnesota lost 8-2 to Iowa after the Hawkeye's Joel Booker tied a University of Iowa, Big Ten Tournament, and TD Ameritrade Park record with five hits. The Hawkeyes put up 18 hits overall, and Booker was 5-for-5 with an RBI and run scored and reached in all six of his plate appearances.
Nebraska lost to Michigan State 5-1, especially disappointing since it was the Spartans who ended Nebraska's season last year in the 2015 Big Ten tourney at Target Field in Minnesota.
Indiana lost to Maryland 5-3 after an amazing pitching performance by Mike Shawaryn, who allowed only four hits and set a TD Ameritrade record striking out 16 batters.
Then Ohio State knocks off Michigan 8-3 in the nightcap, making it four straight over the Wolverines. That has to burn, especially when you remember that Michigan was the only Big Ten team ranked throughout most of the season, and considered a lock for the NCAA tourney. The Buckeyes are hot, 12-3 in May, maybe nobody wants to play them, or maybe they're just damned excited to be ruining things for Michigan.
CN is pleased to present a new photographer for you for this year's tourney. Brent Fields of Frozen Moment is shooting for us this week. If you like his stuff, be sure to encourage him with a comment. If you don't, well, then go find your own friggin' photographer, put up some stuff, and we'll all comment away on that.
