After getting back on the winning track with an extra inning win against Kansas State on Tuesday, the Huskers return home to host the Nicholls State Colonials in a non-conference series. Derek Burkamper will get another chance at being the Friday starter as he will oppose Colonials ace Justin Sinibaldi.
Nebraska will look for a more complete game as they have struggled offensively recently. Nebraska did break through for four runs in the eleventh inning Tuesday night. In the previous 28 innings prior to the 11th, Nebraska had scored a total of four runs.
To do damage against the Colonials, the Huskers will have to get through Sinibaldi who has already pitched three complete games this season. Sinibaldi does allow hitters to reach, and does not have the overpowering strikeout pitches. If the Huskers can work deep into the count, and get into the bullpen, the Huskers could find success.
The Nichols State bullpen has struggled on the season, as the Colonials have allowed opposing batters to hit .294 as a team. Nichols State also allows 5.26 earned runs per nine innings, a mark even higher than the Huskers 4.72 mark.
