Pitching had been a concern for the Nebraska baseball team for the past two weekends. It was not on Saturday, but now suddenly the bats have created cause for concern, as the Huskers scored just one run in 22 innings on Saturday. Nebraska dropped the second game of Saturday's doubleheader to #20 Long Beach State, 3-1, giving the Dirtbags the deciding game in the series.
After dropping a 1-0 13-inning decision in the opening game of Saturday's doublheader, Nebraska scored its only run of the day in the fifth inning of the nightcap. The Huskers opened the frame with back-to-back hits before Ryan Boldt notched an RBI sacrifice fly, tying the game at 1-1. The tie was short-lived, however, as Long Beach State got a leadoff single from Brock Lundquist in the bottom half of the inning, which was immediately followed by a Garrett Nelson blast over the right field wall.
The Nebraska bullpen held the Dirtbags scoreless for the final three innings, and on the day Nebraska outhit Long Beach State by a 7-6 margin, but the Huskers couldn't capitalize on the fact that they got their leadoff man aboard five times in the final seven frames.
The Huskers (3-6) will be at home for the first time this season when they host Northern Colorado for a two-game series starting Tuesday.
