Senior Shavon Shields has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All American Team. He we selected as one of the five first team members of the group. This is the second year in a row that Shields has received the honor.

Shavon has been a model student athlete on and off the court while at Nebraska. He is a biological sciences major and is currently holding a 3.72 GPA. Just last month he was named to the NABC Allstate Good Works Team for his work within the community.

While he is no slouch on the classroom, Shavon has also been one of the main leaders on the court. A starter since his freshman year he is currently averaging 16.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg, and 2.8 apg on the season.

This is a big honor and comes at a time where Shavon and the team could use some good news. The team has lost four in a row and is on the verge of having to play into the conference tournament. Last game of the season is against Northwestern this Sunday in Evanston at 1:00pm.

Also named a first-team Academic All-American: Jarrod Uthoff of Iowa, Marcus Paige of North Carolina, Joshua Braun of Grand Canyon University and Canyon Barry of the College of Charleston.
