Coming off of a doubleheader sweep yesterday, the Huskers will look to clinch their first weekend series win of the year on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers will send true freshman Matt Waldron out for his second start of the season, while the Lions will send Cory Abbott to the hill.
The Huskers continued to use the long ball yesterday, as they added two more home runs to bring their early season total to 15. In the first game Steven Reveles went deep for a walk off and in the second Taylor Fish provided all of the offense necessary with a three run jack in the first.
After Colton Howell gave the Huskers a decent start in game one, Nebraska pitching shut down the Lions the rest of the way. Byron Hood would finish the first game with three innings of perfect ball to secure the victory in game one for the Huskers. In the nightcap, Derek Burkamper, Reece Eddins, and Zack Engelken would combine on the shutout for the Huskers.
With Waldron and the bullpen looking to continue the pitching revival, the Husker bats look to continue to stay hot against Abbott. Abbott has allowed opponents to hit over .300 this season, giving up 21 hits in only 18 innings of work.
With a win today, Nebraska's would have their longest winning streak since last April when they took two from Minnesota, beat both Creighton and Omaha in midweek games, and defeated Ohio State. Nebraska has a ways to go to match it's best start at Hawks Field as they won 11 straight to open the season last year.
