Nebraska Baseball Opening Day Gamethread

Nebraska looks to open the season with a win for the third straight year.

The 2016 Nebraska Baseball opens the season with a three game series against the College of Charleston this afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 local time. The Huskers will be looking to win their third consecutive season opener.

Colton Howell will get the start for Nebraska, while Nathan Helvey will get the start for the Cougars. Howell, a first time starter will need to look for quick innings and pitch to contact to preserve the Nebraska bullpen for the rest of the weekend.

The College of Charleston is currently projected to be a two seed in the NCAA Tournament according to Baseball America. Analyst Jim Shonerd has College of Charleston as an Omaha sleeper team.

Helvey and Jordan Ober make a solid front end rotation, while the Cougars return numerous arms in their bullpen from last season. On offense look for Ryan Brown, a Freshmen All-American last season to lead the Cougars. The Cougars have the ability to drive the ball out of the park with relative ease, as they hit 75 home runs last season.
