The Vols are 8-4 on the season, with notable wins vs. Virginia Tech in the Battle of Bristol, and at Georgia on a last-second Hail Mary pass. Notable losses for Tennessee are against South Carolina, at Texas A&M in Double Overtime, and their final game of the regular season where they lost to Vanderbilt.
Many folks will remember the last 2 times the Huskers and Vols met in bowl games. In Tom Osborne’s final game, his 1997 Nebraska squad finished off a perfect season and defeated Peyton Manning’s Tennessee team 42-17 to capture part of the 1997 National Championship.
In the 1999 Fiesta Bowl, Frank Solich’s Huskers once again took it to the Vols, defeating Tennessee 31-21 and finishing 3rd in the country behind Virginia Tech and Florida State.
