Nebraska Basketball: Huskers Hold Off South Dakota 73-61

Nebraska holds off late South Dakota run to beat the Coyotes

NCAA Basketball: Nebraska at Clemson Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

Nebraska was able to get their fifth win of the season on Saturday afternoon, knocking off the South Dakota Coyotes 73-61 . All five Husker starters finished in double figures. The offense played really well this game but the team did struggle in the second half.

It’s safe to assume Nebraska was ready to finish this game and wanted to start thinking about Creighton. After all, Nebraska has lost five straight to their in-state rivals. The Huskers are now 5-3 on the season and get ready for the Creighton matchup on Wednesday night.

The Good

As I stated before, all five Husker starters finished in double figures. Jack McVeigh led the way with 16 points. McVeigh has been struggling from three point land these last few games but he was better today. McVeigh shot 4-9 from beyond the arc. Tai Webter had 12 points, Michael Jacobsen had 11 points, and Morrow/Watson both had 10 points.

The offense played well in this game and they will need to take this momentum into the Creighton game. Creighton has one of the best offenses in the country, Nebraska better be ready.

The Bad

The Huskers were up 24-6 at one point in the game, then let South Dakota cut the lead to seven points in the second half. Nebraska set itself on cruise control in the second half.

Tim Miles was messing with the lineups throughout the game, messing with the flow a little bit, but that is normal in these ‘easy’ non-conference games. The Huskers needed to figure out their best lineup for the Creighton game.

Quote of The Day

“I know they try to tell us one game at a time, but I’ve been thinking about Creighton. I don’t want to go 4 years never beating them.” - Tai Webster

Nebraska wants to beat Creighton. These players are sick of losing to them. The game in in Lincoln and the crowd should be pumped up. Tip-off is at 8PM and can be seen on BTN.
