The B1G Conference announced their post-season awards today, and many Huskers were honored.
The honors were led by Coach John Cook, who was awarded the conference Coach of the Year. Both the media and coaches awarded Cook the honor, marking the second time he’s won the award. The first time was in 1997 as the Wisconsin head coach. It is the first time a Nebraska head coach has won the award.
Justine Wong-Orantes was awarded the conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Wong-Orantes averaged 4.22 digs per set during the season, ranking second in the conference. Wong-Orantes also set records for digs in a match and total career digs at Nebraska this season.
Joining Wong-Orantes on the team were both Amber and Kadie Rolfzen as well as Kelly Hunter. Mikaela Foecke and Briana Holman earned Honorable Mentions.
Brooke Smith was given the Sportsmanship Award for the University of Nebraska.
The post-season starts Friday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center against New Hampshire. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM Central, but may be later if the early match goes long. NET will televise the match.
