The Nebraska volleyball team won the Big Ten title outright tonight as they dispatched #18 Michigan at home 3-1. The Huskers beat the Wolverines 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21 to clinch a share of the Big Ten title, then #2 Minnesota knocked off #3 Wisconsin in Minneapolis in five sets this Saturday night to give Nebraska the outright title. Minnesota won 3-2, 22-25, 25-17, 11-25, 25-17, 15-8.
Nebraska finished the season 18-2 in the Big Ten, while Minnesota and Wisconsin finished the season tied at 17-3.
Nebraska’s two losses came against Ohio State earlier in the season at home, and then last Wednesday the Huskers lost to Minnesota in five sets. Nebraska was close to sweeping the Gophers, but Minnesota rallied to win the match in five sets in Minneapolis.
It is Nebraska’s first Big Ten Conference title in volleyball since 2011. The Big Ten is the nation’s toughest volleyball conference with six teams ranked in the AVCA’s Top 25.
The title gives Nebraska one of their two goals for this season - a conference title. Their other goal - a national championship repeat.
