Friday Night Sports Open Thread: More Opening Weekend Football; Husker Volleyball vs Texas

Opening weekend for college football continues and the #4 ranked Husker volleyball team takes on old nemesis #3 Texas.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Husker volleyball team posted a perfect opening weekend record and even boasted the Big Ten setter of the week in Kelly Hunter. Tonight, a much tougher challenge awaits as they take on Texas in Austin. You can listen to the match at Huskers.com or watch on (cough) the Longhorn Network. You can also stream it on WatchESPN if your cable package includes the LHN. The Husker women will face #11 Oregon at 5 pm on Saturday.

Some of the teams in action in college football tonight are Michigan State, who is playing AT Western Michigan at 6 central (against a WMU coach some are already putting on the list of people to potentially coach Illinois next season). Baylor and their 400 lb tight end try to score all the points at 7 as they take on Southern Methodist (SMU). Mike Riley's former team, Oregon State is playing Weber State at 7 central, and the Tim Beckman-less Illini make their season debut at 8 central against a favored Kent State team (who are expected to have a rotten year, being picked last in the MAC East division by preseason media and coaches polls).
