Nebraska Suspends Michael Rose-Ivey, Jonathan Rose and Cethan Carter for BYU Game

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Three weeks ago, the Portland Tribune broke the news that five Huskers were going to be suspended for the BYU game.  We now know the names:

  • Michael Rose-Ivey, Junior Linebacker
  • Jonathan Rose, Senior Cornerback
  • Cethan Carter, Junior Tight End
  • Robby Painter, Junior Offensive Lineman
  • Joe Keels, Senior Defensive End

Rose-Ivey has been rumored to be suspended previously, as he was listed atop the depth chart but didn't receive a Blackshirt this week.  At that time, defensive coordinator Mark Banker said that Blackshirts had to be won off the field as well as on the field.  He'll be replaced by redshirt freshman Luke Gifford this weekend. Jonathan Rose has been splitting time with Josh Kalu at cornerback; Kalu received a Blackshirt but Rose did not.  Carter was expected to be the starter at tight end this season, but reportedly was not having a strong fall camp.  When the depth chart was announced earlier this week, Carter was listed third behind David Sutton and Trey Foster.

Joe Keels has only seen limited duty as a reserve, while Robby Painter has not played in a game thus far.
