Nebraska opened up as a 7.5 favorite over Illinois... at least as far as betting lines go (note that link goes to ESPN), but according to ESPN's FPI (friggin' power index), Nebraska has a 49.3% chance of winning the game. Note that the FPI has us as underdogs to Wisconsin and Michigan State - not that there's anything shocking about that.
So... what you going to go with? Vegas odds, or whatever the hell these statistical guys think at ESPN?
Nebraska is dead last in pass defense, 128th out of 128 teams, giving up 379.5 yard per game. We are 124th in penalties, giving up 91.5 yards per game.
Good news?
We are seventh in rushing defense, allowing 73.5 yards per game, and 15th in rushing yards per carry. Those stats aren't bad, but who will bother running at our defense if they can shred us through the air?
I have noticed that most of the discussion on the articles here lately have centered around the coaching staff, as in, "Who are we going to hire next?".
Honestly, I don't understand why, four games into a new staff, this is even a point of discussion. No changes are going to be made as the season is going on, and running over the same old ground you've already trodden on... well, I don't get it. Perhaps that's the nature of who we are, or do we here at CornNation need to provide better football analysis than we've been doing?
