Straight from the mother ship.
The Nebraska Athletic Department and Nebraska volleyball program has announced that head coach John Cook will miss Saturday’s match at Iowa State to attend to a family member in his home state of California.
"My family needs me in California right now," Cook said. "My sister is in a tough fight and I had to head there immediately to be with her and my family. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts, prayers and privacy during this difficult time for us."
"We fully support John and encouraged him to be with his family right now," said Pat Logsdon, Nebraska’s senior woman administrator. "Our thoughts and prayers are with John and his family."
Assistant coach Dani Busboom Kelly will serve as interim head coach for Saturday’s match, while director of operations Lindsay Peterson has received approval to be a bench coach along with assistant coach Chris Tamas.
Dani Busboom spent three years as assistant coach for Husker volleyball and also three years as a volleyball player. Busboom was a former team captain and played libero on Nebraska's 2006 team which won the national championship.
Chris Tamas joined as assistant coach in May coming from Cal Poly. His wife Jennifer is also a volunteer assistant coach for the team.
Lindsay Peterson is entering her 10th year as director of operations for Husker volleyball.
Prayers and thoughts for the Cook family this weekend. GO BIG RED!!!
