GTKtCNC has been stalled for a couple weeks while we got back in the groove of the college football season. Today, we get re-started on our final few installments as we profile one of our military community members. CoastGuardHusker is a difficult guy to keep up with. Every time we see him in the game threads, he seems to be coming or going somewhere interesting. He is also pretty good at predictions - as I have taken so long to get this series finished that one of his predictions has come true (unfortunately).
How did you become a Husker fan?
I was born into it. Born in Omaha and grew up in LaVista. I'm a 2001 graduate of Papillion LaVista High School
What is your favorite Husker-related memory?
National championships are great and all...but the best has been my first and to to date, only, game I've been to. 1991 Nebraska vs. Kansas St. I was 8 at the time.
What is your most prized piece of Husker gear or memorabilia?
"Husker guy" a 12 inch stuffed Husker doll with autographs including:
- Tommie Frazier
- Brook Berringer
- Calvin Jones
- Derrick Brown
- Trev Alberts and a lot more
Do you have any "superstitions" or routines that you have to do on game day?
10 minutes before kickoff I brainwash my sons with the regarding of "The Legend of Little Red" Its a kids book that teaches sportsmanship. I live on base housing. We blow up the 5' inflatable Herbie and hang the Nebraska flag from the carport. Living in different areas adjusts your traditions.
Among your family and friends, who is the most die-hard Husker fan?
Me actually. Or my cousin. He broke me the news of the DPE injury. Stuff like that is how he keeps me informed.
What is something non-Husker related about you that people here at CornNation would be surprised or interested to know?
I am a helicopter aircrewman for the US Coast Guard. Cheesy, but the best way to explain it is "Have you seen Coast Guard Alaska on the weather channel?"
What one thing about the Mike Riley regime has stuck out most to you so far?
Recruiting Recruiting Recruiting...this is his last stop in the game of life. I think he outlasts Eichorst and Perlman.
Your predictions for the upcoming season?
-Westy is a finalist for the Biletnikoff
-NU wins the west
-Nebraska drops the home opener...yes I said it. (Ranchbabe's note: This prediction was received waaaaaaay before the BYU Hail Mary - honest. CGH nailed it.)
Will Armstrong's completion % improve and about where do you think it will end up (%)? Goes up but he starts slow. I have 0 faith in the RB corps right now. Too much youth and Newby can't hang onto the ball.
Will we get the monkey....errrr badger....off our backs this year and beat Wisconsin? Wiscy goes down..we take it by two scores
# of interceptions for Nate Gerry - and how many does he return for a touchdown? Defense Rex gets 5...+/-1...0 for the pick 6.
What animal will Jack Gangwish kill this year? Badgers!!!
Who is the leading tackler for the Huskers (and how many tackles, TFL's)? I think Gerry has a breakout year. Number to be determined.

Thank you CGH for taking time to answer these questions. Thank you for your service - and thank you to all of our other CN community members who have served in the armed forces, past or present.
