Get to Know the CN Staff: Pat Janssen

Which CN writer has Auburn gear signed by the Kelsay brothers? Auburn?!? Find out how this is possible and learn more about one of our resident 'funny guys'.

Today, we get to talk to a funny guy. A real one. Pat Janssen is a professional comedian and CornNation is fortunate to have him as one of the regular voices on the Big Red Cobcast. You can follow Pat on Twitter @thepatjanssen

How did you become a Husker fan?

Pat: I grew up in Auburn, NE. Was there another option?

If you traveled forward in time and learned that the Huskers never win a Big Ten title or a national title ever again - would you still cheer for them?

Pat: If I had the ability to travel in time, I wouldn’t sit on my hands and just let them not win a title. I’d go all Marty McFly on the situation and make it happen! What the hell kind of fan are you?

What is your favorite Husker-related memory?

Pat: 1991 vs. Iowa State. My old man took me to my first game. It was all over for me at that point. The first iteration of my current fandom, however, probably occurred in 1997. The internet was still new-ish and incredibly slow, but as soon as the Missouri game was over, I hopped onto our dial-up and tried to find clips of the Matt Davison catch. That week, I listened to the whole radio broadcast by the Nebraska crew, the whole radio broadcast by the Mizzou crew and watched infinitely buffering clips of Davison’s catch at least a 100 times. I have Musburger’s call memorized.

Ranchbabe's note: Here is the video of the flea kicker. Just because.

What is your most prized piece of Husker gear or memorabilia?

Pat: I have so many Auburn Bulldogs items signed by the Kelsay brothers from my school days hanging out with their sister. I didn’t think anything of them at the time because they were just the Kelsay brothers who lived across the street from the school. But now? I need find those damn things.

Do you have any "superstitions" or routines that you have to do on game day?  How or why did that particular routine/superstition evolve?

Pat: I’ve started toying with the idea of wearing opposing colors the last few years because every time I have a Saturday off work and get to wear red and go nuts, things don’t usually go well.

ICYMI: Pat recently  took over the Cobcast while Ryan was in Russia and got to interview [former Husker All-American wrestlers] Jordan Burroughs and James Green. It was a cool as it sounds.

He also wrote a nice piece comparing T-Magic and Terran Petteway and brought us his live and uncensored diary of the Mike Riley national letter of intent signing day press conference.
