The Nebraska Cornhuskers received a Running Back verbal from Van, Texas on Saturday night.
Committed to Nebraska #GBR ⚪
— Chief (@AphonsoT_) May 31, 2015
Aphonso Thomas, who stands all of 5'11" and 190, made his commitment to Nebraska known. He states on 247 that he committed 2 weeks ago but wished to push it back due to a violent storm that ripped the city of Van.
Thomas, who is the 97th ranked RB in this class, is also the 174th best player in the State of Texas at this time.
Thomas rushed last year for 934 yards on 108 carries last season, which is about a 8 yard clip per carry. Not terrible when you realize he split carries with 2 other players.
Van is a 4A Texas school, which would equate to Class B-ish in Nebraska. He sported offers from Kansas, Colorado State, Texas State and Nevada as well.
Mike Schaefer of 247 sums up how Nebraska is doing right now on the trail:
Four May commitments for the #Nebraska staff. Three commits from guys who hadn't met new staff. Not bad for Mike Riley and company.
