The Nebraska Huskers Volleyball team announced the hiring of Chris Tamas as assistant coach today. Tamas replaces Dan Meske, who took the head coaching job at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Tamas’s wife, Jennifer, will also join the staff as a volunteer assistant.
Tamas spent the last two seasons at Cal Poly, where the school recorded the 23rd ranked recruiting class nationally according to Prepvolleyball.com. Prior to that, he was on the staff at Minnesota under Hugh McCutcheon for two years. During that time, the Gophers made the NCAA Sweet 16 both years, advancing to the Elite 8 in 2012. Before Minnesota, Tamas spent 2009 and 2010 with UC-Riverside.
Tamas played collegiately at The University of thePacific where he was named unanimous AVCA All-America first team as a senior in 2003, as well as team MVP for the Tigers. He went on to be invited to the US Men’s National Team training camp, and was part of the team that won gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Jennifer Tamas also played at Pacific in college where she was the Freshman of the Year in 2000, and Big West Conference Player of the Year in 2003. She played middle blocker for the US Women’s National Team that took the silver medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
