Dear God, It's The OffSeason

The offseason has arrived.

Ok, for most of you the offseason arrived months ago when college football season ended.

For others (such as me) the offseason ends when Nebraska baseball/softball ends. That it ended so early this year (high expectations, dammit Darin Erstad), it's frustrating.

Some who follow recruiting like to say "THERE'S NO OFFSEASON", which, well, they're right. There is no offseason for stalking (That one's just for our own Brian. Wooo!).

I don't watch pro sports (because I'm better than you) because I just don't have time. I'm too busy (fighting with the other half of my brain) trying to come up with decent content here (or writing fiction that sucks and you'll probably never see and I can't publish erotica here).

It's been x years since CN was started (I'm too lazy to look it up, plus I think it's kind of terrifying), and through those offseasons, I've looked at movies, books (sometimes both related), history of Nebraska football, or the history of college football in general, and I'll be honest - I'm running out of fresh ideas.

Therefore, this year, we're going to open it up (well, I am at least). We've grown a lot, and the mothership which is SBNation.com keeps insisting we publish every day, for God's (the CEO's) sake, because if we miss a single day, some of you might not ever come back again and we wouldn't want that because web hits are precious minute (not the time, the diminutive) things that all add up to 30 or 40 more dollars (cents) by the end of the day.

PUBLISH EVERY DAY - It's the mantra.... it is. This is why you see 23 Nebraska media sites (23? possibly 50. who's counted lately?) publish the same thing (pretty much) and worrying about SEO tactics to get them any possible web hits because OMG web hits.

Honestly, the pressure wipes you out. This publishing content shit is a grind and I think it's just dumb. I can choose to not participate (OMG YOU'LL NEVER COME BACK THEN) or I can choose to be a little creative.

Open it up?

I'm thinking books, netflix series (not the common ones), music. I am seriously considering a series on the sex lives of invertebrates. I'm not 100% sure what an inverbrates is exactly, but what a wonderful offseason we can have learning together!!!

There is one more thing you should know. I run this place.. but I don't do a very good job of it. Normally when we bring other writers on, they're given a lot of freedom (too much freedom sometimes, DAMN MY LACK OF AN IRON HAND!). Some might be serious. Some might be frivolous. Some may not be able to write at all (we will shoot them immediately).

We'll be doing a Q&A with our own writers so you can get to know them better. I'm taking suggestions for questions about things you'd like t know about them

Then there's this... did you ever grow anything in the garden of your mind?:
