Big Ten baseball weekend coming up!

Three teams remain winless. Rutgers is 0-4, Penn State is 0-6, and Minnesota is 0-7. Minnesota was swept in a four-game series by Texas last weekend, in a series that saw three games in which they didn't score a run. Rutgers had last weekend's series against Tennessee canceled. Penn State has been swept by Elon and Texas A&M in the first two weeks.

Only one team, Illinois, is undefeated at 6-0. Maryland remains ranked in all polls, while Illinois is ranked in a couple.

Nebraska has dropped out of the polls.

Weekend Series:

Illinois (6-0) vs Ball State, Kent State, and West Virginia in the Chanticleer Classic.
Maryland (5-1) faces Appalachian State in Emerson, GA.

Lagniappe, February 26th. The "I Hate Winter" Edition " College Baseball Today

I guess college baseball teams are just getting too fed up with this Sybil-like weather we’ve had this season. Because I don’t ever recall so many college baseball series getting moved due to weather.

Fluffy Answers Not Allowed -- An Afternoon With Michele Roberts

If nothing else, I would like to have a rule imposed, 'If you have a question, ask it; if you don't, leave.' Sometimes, they're waiting for the marquee players. I get that, but there is so much standing around."

Illegal man downfield penalty is misguided, some coaches say - ESPN

Auburn's Gus Malzahn and Ole Miss' Hugh Freeze are among a group of head coaches nationally who think an NCAA Rules Committee proposal to change the illegal man downfield penalty is misguided.

They make a good point.

Michigan offensive coordinator Tim Drevno on Jim Harbaugh: "He is the smartest man I have ever been around" - Maize n Brew
"(Harbaugh) demands a lot from you but in a good way," Drevno said. "He's never demeaning to you, but he brings the best out of you to compete at the highest level. We want you to walk into this building to be the best at your craft. We want people to emulate what you do. He's competitive and he always thinks outside of the box. Very creative.

Louisiana Tech series continues Baylor's non-conference scheduling philosophy - Big 12 Blog - ESPN

"The way I've looked at it is, you want to get in the final four and win the Big 12 and go unscathed," Briles said last July. "You do that, you go 9-0 in the Big 12, you're going to be in the final four, because you're going to beat probably two top-10 teams, probably two others in the top 20, and maybe another top 25, which is what we faced (in 2013). That's a résumé that's good enough to match any other conference."

Unbelievably stupid idea, Baylor. Art Briles may be a great football coach (turned Baylor into a national power), but his scheduling philosophy.... it's like Hyde and Jekyll.

Basketball

Buckeyes Continue Husker Spiral - Corn Nation

After a week of debate and lockouts, the Huskers took the court vs. Ohio State. The results were familiar.

We don't have a good basketball team right now. That isn't going to change before the season is over. Maybe they can make a run in the Big Ten tourney and get some good feelings back for next year, but this is a long... process. There I said it. It will take years to build this program. We're going to have seasons like this. We're probably still going to have seasons like this even if we become a decent program. Patience is required.
