After splitting a pair of close contests yesterday, the Huskers baseball team will go for the series victory this afternoon. Head coach Darin Erstad has shaken up his lineup, moving hot hitting freshmen Jake Schleppenbach to the top of the order, while moving down Austin Darby to the 8 hole.
Erstad will be looking for more offensive consistency from this lineup, after yesterday's struggles. Nebraska has scored more than four runs in a game just once this season, in the series opener against BYU. BYU has had plenty of opportunities, but the Husker pitchers have gotten out of more than a few tough spots in this series.
The Huskers are batting .232 so far this season, while opponents are batting .288. The Huskers are also slugging a measly .283, lower than the opponents batting average. While the Huskers may be struggling at the plate, the pitching staff has been strong, having a team ERA of 3.17.
Sophomore Max Knutson gets the start for the Huskers, and will be opposed by Brady Corless for the Cougars. Corless has a tendency to get a bit wild, as he hit two batters, and walked two more during his first start last weekend. Knutson will need to throw more strikes to stay in the rotation, as Derek Burkamper made a strong impression in his start on Thursday.
