It was a series of mistakes and a mysterious call that did the Huskers in vs. the Iowa Hawkeyes. It's become a familiar refrain this 2015 season for NU. Huskers QB Tommy Armstrong Jr. threw four interceptions, including one near the goal line on an attempted screen pass that Iowa took in for a touchdown in what ended up being a one score game. In the middle of the fourth quarter, the Huskers faced a 4th and 1 play, down 28-17 at the Iowa 19.
The Huskers decided to go for it and instead of trying to run for the yard or attempt a safer pass play, instead the Danny Langsdorf and Co. decided to throw a low percentage fade to Brandon Reilly, effectively ending the Huskers best and last chance to get back into the game. The Huskers never mounted another serious challenge and fell 28-20 to the Hawkeyes.
The Huskers finish the regular season at 5-7 and now wait to find out if they'll be needed to fill a bowl slot if there are not enough eligible teams to fill the other spots. The Hawkeyes on the other hand, remain unbeaten and move on to the Big Ten Championship Game with designs on a berth in the College Football Playoff.
