Corn Flakes: What Effort Did You Notice Against the Spartans?

David McGee

Anyone else recognize the play in this photo that David took on Saturday night?

Yes? No?

If not, I'll give you the details. That's Maliek Collins trying to chase down Spartan receiver Macgarrett Kings Jr. in the second quarter. Kings scored on a 34-yard pass from Connor Cook. It started as a shallow cross play, going left to right, then Kings cuts back, leaving Nate Gerry and the rest of the Nebraska defense behind.

Collins was rushing the passer, sees the completion, turns around and tries to catch Kings from behind. Collins is the closest Husker as Kings crosses into the end zone.

I doubt many people noticed the play, but it came early (2nd quarter, 11:43).

As much crap as we've given these Husker players about divisiveness and lack of effort, this one really stood out to me.

What individual effort did you notice?

Check these out - from the postgame notes from the athletic department about Tommy Armstrong Jr.

2 –– Tommy Armstrong Jr. moved into the No. 2 spot on the Nebraska career passing list. Armstrong completed 19-of-33 passes for 320 yards, pushing his career total to 6,032 yards, moving past Zac Taylor (5,850) into the second spot. Armstrong also moved into the top 10 on the season passing list. His 2,372 passing yards this season rank seventh on the NU season chart. Armstrong’s 2,695 yards last season rank third.

7,000 –– Armstrong accounted for 339 yards of total offense in the game to push his career total to 7,216, becoming the third Husker with 7,000 career total offense yards. He joins Taylor Martinez (10,233) and Eric Crouch (7,915) in the 7,000-yard total offense club. Armstrong moved into the top 10 on the season total offense list. His 2,648 total offensive yards rank seventh on the NU season chart.

300+ –– Armstrong’s 339 yards of total offense mark his ninth career game of more than 300 total yards, which ties a school record held by Joe Ganz and Taylor Martinez.

Pretty damned report regarding Beckman. He not only sounds like a complete idiot, but he sounds like an uncaring idiot. If he never coaches football again at any level that will be fine.
