Four Weeks To NSD: What's The Huskers Plan To Finish The '15 Cycle Strong?

There are some folks to watch for commitments for... and a couple that will probably not be Huskers.

Today counts EXACTLY four weeks till National Signing Day. With the bowl game dead period ending this coming Tuesday, Mike Riley has his support staff ready and willing to salvage the 2015 recruiting cycle in a big way.

The Huskers are currently 36th in the 247 National Recruting Composite Team Rankings, with a ranking of 5th in the Big Ten Conference. A good target for Nebraska to finish the season would be 4th in the Big Ten, with a top 25 ranking. Both are completely feasible if Nebraska keeps most, if not all their targets while getting some kids they have aimed high for.

Who are the names to watch for currently? Lets take a look:

Jalin Barnett: The big OL out of Lawton, Oklahoma still likes Nebraska. Oklahoma has filled up their class after Neville Gallimore committed to the Sooners at the Army All-American Game in San Antonio, so it's thought that Oklahoma State is the lone roadblock to Nebraska getting Barnett. Barnett loved his visit back in December, and Grandma was happy. If Grandma is happy, we're all happy here.

Lavan Alston: This 4 star Wide Receiver out of St. Bonaventure HS in Ventura, California is back on Trent Bray's radar after Bray went after him at Oregon State. Cal is the Crystal Ball leader, but Alston is currently scheduled to visit Lincoln on January 30th.

Adrianne Talan: Talan did visit with Barnett back on December 13th, and there's been talk of Iowa trying to get into the fray here. However, Talan hasn't lined up any other visits anywhere, and I would be hard pressed to think Nebraska isn't going to get his services at Safety.

Mohamed Barry: While he does not have a visit set up, the Kansas State verbal got an offer from Nebraska yesterday. It sounds like Riley has thrown Georgia specialist Charlton Warren onto Barry, and the staff is pushing hard for a visit from the Wisconsin decommit.

Other points before the mad dash to NSD starts:

- With the verbal of Sheriron Jones to Tennessee today, Nebraska doesn't seem to have very many manageable offers out to Quarterbacks, whether they are Pro-Style or Dual-Threat. Joe Burrow isn't seeming like it is happening either. Nebraska could just go with what they have on the roster for '15 and hope they get a good kid off the '16 cycle like Brandon Peters out of Indiana, Bowman Sells out of Texas, or  K.J. Costello out of California. Now, if you want to go JUCO wise, you could aim at guys in this cycle like Daniel Fitzwater. Bottom line here though, is that unless someone/something pipes up, Nebraska is not going to get a QB to replace the Dillman withdrawal.

- It's looking more and more like Nebraska could very well lose Daishon Neal. In this piece today in The Oregonian, Neal talks about his recruitment by Oregon.. and another school.

"It's really out of Oregon and Nebraska at the moment," he said. "With Oklahoma, I'm going to go up there and see what they have to offer. If I like it there, it'll be Oregon and Oklahoma."

Nebraska isn't really in the numbers position to tell Neal to have fun, and they could in the end really keep him in-state. However, it doesn't seem like Daishon is shopping around. These kids, like what Hunter Dale and Kendall Bussey did, tend to wear out the welcome of folks and give them "I TOLD YOU HE WAS TERRIBLE" comments when they don't live up to the hype.

- Right now, with no other attrition, Nebraska could sign up to about 21 in this class. That means you have about 7 spots you can fill with kids in the next month. With the way that Bo Pelini always seemed to keep 1-2 scholarships around just in case, a good question for this cycle will be to see if Riley and company not sweat filling up the roster with kids who could may not crack the 2 deep soon. There are 25 Official Visits available, and I can't think Ryan Gunderson and gang can't fill them up, but you also need kids to say yes after only establishing a relationship with them for just over a month.

- Keep an eye on the visitors of January 24th. It sounds like Mike Riley wants to get a lot of the Nebraska commits like the Davis twins, Tyrin Ferguson and Neal on campus. I imagine guys like Christian Gaylord, Eric Lee and others will be there too. It could also be a weekend where if you have any big-time targets, Riley gets them on campus and the commits give them the big sell to join them in Lincoln.
