Ameer Abdullah Wins Big Ten Offensive Player Of The Week (Again)

For the third time in five weeks Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah has won Big Ten honors, as he was chosen as the Big Ten Offensive Week for his performance against Illinois. 

Abdullah leads the nation in rushing yardage with 833, and is second in yards per game at 166.60. He racked up 208 yards against Illinois, his third 200-yard game of 2014 and fourth of his career.

Abdullah was also named Athlon sports Big Ten Player of the Week and the College Football Performance Awards Running Back of the Week.

Offensive Player of the Week

Ameer Abdullah, Nebraska

Sr., RB, Homewood, Ala./Homewood

  • Rushed for 208 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries, including 127 yards in the first quarter alone, as Nebraska improved to 5-0 on the season
  • Posted his third 200-yard rushing game of the season and the fourth of his career
  • Set a career-high with three rushing touchdowns and had three touchdowns overall for the second straight week
  • Records the fourth Offensive Player of the Week award of his career and third of the season

Defensive Player of the Week

Cole Farrand, Maryland

Sr., LB, Green Pond, N.J./Pope John XXIII

  • Recorded 19 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, to lead Maryland to a victory over Indiana
  • Posted the highest single-game tackle total in the Big Ten this season and is tied for the second-highest total among FBS players this season
  • His 19 tackles are the most by a Maryland player since he totaled 23 last season against Clemson
  • Claims his first career Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor

Special Teams Player of the Week

Griffin Oakes, Indiana

Fr., K, Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood

  • Converted three field goal attempts, including a school-record 58-yarder and kicks from 38 and 48 yards
  • Broke the previous school record of 55 yards set in 1989
  • Tied for the 10th longest field goal in Big Ten history and the longest since 2009
  • Claims his first career Special Teams Player of the Week honor

Co-Freshmen of the Week

Anthony Walker, Northwestern

LB, Miami, Fla./Monsignor Edward Pace

  • Recorded eight tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and a 49-yard interception return for a touchdown in a victory at Penn State
  • Led the team in tackles as the Wildcats defense did not allow a touchdown in a Big Ten game for the first time since 1995
  • Wins his first career weekly award

J.T. Barrett, Ohio State

QB, Wichita Falls, Texas/Rider

  • Went 26-of-36 for 330 yards and four touchdowns as the Buckeyes defeated Cincinnati
  • Added 79 rushing yards, giving him 409 total yards, the second-highest total in school history and most since 1981
  • Wins his third Freshman of the Week award
