Nebraska WR Sam Burtch Tears ACL; Out for Season

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

On Monday, junior wide receiver Sam Burtch returned to practice after suffering a head injury during preseason practice.

He lasted just two practices before tearing his ACL on Wednesday.

After Thursday's practice, coach Bo Pelini told the media that Burtch was out for the season. Said Pelini:

"He's done. It's a shame. He was just running around."

On the most recent depth chart, Burtch was listed as a backup to Alonzo Moore at one of the wide receiver spots along with redshirt freshman Kevin Gladney. Presumably, Gladney is now up for more playing time.

Burtch redshirted in 2011 as a walk-on, so Nebraska will likely have to appeal to the NCAA in order to get a sixth year of eligibility.
