Corn Flakes: Tommy Armstrong - How Good Can He Be?

New, 65 comments
David McGee

The CN staff recently had quite an internal discussion regarding Tommy Armstrong Jr. I won't name names, but let's just say there was a healthy mix who thought that Armstrong will improve and remain the starter over the next year or so, and those that didn't feel he was ever going to become a better passer than Taylor Martinez.

Husker fans want Nebraska to be a running team, but if Armstrong can't improve as a passer, the rest of our opponents will be stacking the line against us and we'll see more second halves like we did against McNeese State.

Note this bit from yesterday's practice report:

Beck also stated that he wanted to get more consistency out of Quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr, as the Sophomore signal caller needs to focus on fundamentals.

"I just want him to play within the system, read what he is supposed to read, and deliver the ball to the guys he is supposed to deliver the ball to with proper technique. When he does that, he is pretty good, when he doesn’t he is not very good. I don’t care if it is home or away."

There were times at which I felt Armstrong looked great. Some of his option fakes were exceptional, but unfortunately, he played like poop as did the entire rest of the team.

I am interested in hearing your opinions about Armstrong in the comments section.
