If all you saw was the scoreboard, you might have thought that the Michigan State - Iowa game last night was fairly close. You couldn't be more wrong. It was an ugly game for Iowa, and their 86-76 loss to the Spartans leaves Nebraska in sole possession of fourth place in the Big Ten.
At 5:27, Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery got a technical. A short time later, Iowa's Zach McCabe intentionally threw Michigan State's Travis Trice to the floor. The officials called a dead ball double foul on both players (McCabe's fifth), and ejected Spartan Russell Byrd for leaving the bench (why McCabe wasn't ejected... well, it was a dead ball foul, but a pretty cheap play). Iowa made a three at the buzzer to make it look a little better than it was, and it was BAD.
Iowa's loss is Nebraska's gain, however, as the Huskers are in fourth place and can maintain that position and a bye in the Big Ten tournament by beating Wisconsin 6:30 pm on Sunday in a game that will be televised on BTN.
Regardless of what happens Sunday - this is the most fun that Nebrasketball has been for decades.

For more than 40 years, the NCAA has restricted the number, value and guarantee of athletic scholarships. Former West Virginia running back Shawne Alston hopes to change this system. He's suing the NCAA, Pac-12, Big Ten, Big-12, SEC and ACC in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, which is the same court hearing Ed O'Bannon and Sam Keller's class action suit against the NCAA. Alston, who last year filed a separate lawsuit against Electronic Arts, hopes that a judge will certify his case as a class action on behalf thousands of others who played Division I football from 2010 to present. Here is a look at the key arguments in the case.
