Husker WBB earns #4 seed in NCAA Women's Tournament

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier this evening it was the ladies turn to wait and find out where they would be seeded in the NCAA Tournament.  It was revealed they would be a #4 seed into the Lincoln Regional.  Their opening match will be played at the Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, California against #13 seed Fresno State.  Tip-off will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday March 22nd and the game will be televised on ESPN2.  If the Huskers take down the Bulldogs they will face the North Carolina State/BYU winner on Monday.

The NCAA likely chose Los Angeles as a site for these opening round matches because Lincoln, Nebraska hosting a women's tournament regional the following week and Raleigh, North Carolina hosting opening round matches this week in the men's tournament.

Some of the other teams in the Lincoln Regional include some familiar foes: #1 seed Connecticut, a perennial women's basketball powerhouse, #2 seed Duke who ousted Nebraska from last year's tournament and #3 seed Texas A&M who Nebraska upset in last year's tournament to advance to the Sweet 16.  This means there is a possibility of a Nebraska-Connecticut Sweet 16 match up in Lincoln on March 29th.

Nebraska joins Penn State, Purdue, Iowa and Michigan State as the other Big Ten teams in the tournament.  For those who are curious here is the whole 2014 NCAA women's tournament bracket.

GO BIG RED!!!
