Nebraska Has Smart Football Players - 21 on All-Big Ten Academic List

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

I really wanted to entitle this "Nebraska has smart fooball playrs" but I figure it would drive Husker Mike insane, so I didn't.

Nebraska landed 21 football players on the Academic All-Big Ten Honoree list, and as noted by the UNL Athletic Department:

Nebraska's honorees were highlighted by sophomore wide receiver Lane Hovey, who earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the second straight season. Hovey was one of three football student-athletes and 26 overall student-athletes recognized for maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. An Adel, Iowa, native, Hovey is majoring in business administration and already has a senior academic standing, despite having two seasons of eligibility remaining.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

Note:

- Year reflects academic standing not eligibility

- Four out of five starters from the offensive line made this list, including Mark Pelini double majoring in Mathematics and History. This should make you go hmmmmm......

- Pelini is the only player involved in a science-related field.

- Perhaps we need dumber linemen.

- Ameer Abdullah is a senior. Man, I'm gonna miss that guy and not just because of what he did on the field.

Here's the list:
