Nebraska vs. Omaha Game Thread

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

The Nebraska men's basketball team takes the court tonight vs. the Omaha Mavericks looking to rebound from their first loss of the season last Saturday to Rhode Island in overtime, 66-62. Also in question is the status of star guard, Terran Petteway, who injured his ankle during Saturday's game. He missed practice yesterday and is considered a game time decision. If Petteway is not able to play, the Huskers will need someone other than Shavon Shields to step up and produce. Walt Pitchford has struggled from the floor so far this season and no other player has stepped up as a consistent scoring option. If Petteway is not able to go, this will be a test for Husker offense.

The Mavs will test the Huskers stout defense. Omaha is coming off the biggest win in school history after defeating Marquette on Saturday, 97-89. The Mavs will look to do one better tonight vs. NU. UNO is one of the highest scoring teams in the country, averaging more than 90 points per game, 12 in the NCAA. The Mavs are led by C.J. Carter and Devin Patterson, averaging 21 and 17 points per game respectively. They will look to push the tempo offensively and get as many possessions as possible. That will make rebounding and transition defense paramount for the Huskers to slow down the high flying Omaha attack.

Probable Starters:

Nebraska:
Tai Webster
Terran Petteway or Benny Parker
Shavon Shields
David Rivers
Walt Pitchford

Omaha:
Devin Patterson
C.J. Carter
Marcus Tyrus
Jake White
Mike Rostampour
