Week 11 was an enjoyable mix of chaos and crimes against football (two B1G games that shall never be mentioned again). Our punishment for cheering for chaos is the playoff committee dropping the Big Red three spots after a bye week. Putting that aside, we should learn a lot about our beloved Huskers this weekend, and the weekend after that and the one after that. Face it, even if we beat Wisconsin, we will be stressed out about Minnesota and then Iowa. We won't enjoy any of this until it is mathematically impossible to reach four losses. Even then, we won't enjoy it, we will gnash teeth over the missed opportunities to reclaim our rightful place in the national epicenter of college football. Or maybe it's just me.
Thursday and Friday offer some decent appetizers. East Carolina and Cincinnati is expected to be a very competitive game with a 1.5 point spread. Later we get to see Cal and USC. Do you know the last time Cal beat the Trojans? Aaron Rodgers was quarterbacking the Bears. USC is favored by two touchdowns, so it looks like Cal's futility streak may not end just yet. Friday's game is, well, better than no football. Central Florida is favored by 3 touchdowns over Tulsa.
Saturday's main course looks delicious. Do not sleep late as you will want to tune in for the 11 a.m. slate. A pair of games featuring all ranked teams include Clemson - Georgia Tech and then Ohio State - Minnesota. Anyone think OSU is due for a letdown after their big win in East Lansing? Me either. Sorry Goldy, enjoy Floyd and the Jug. The 2:30 time slot also features some ranked-on-ranked games including your Huskers. A few eyeballs here and there might be drawn instead to Alabama and Mississippi State. After escaping LSU last weekend (good grief Tigers-you had ONE job!) Alabama will be looking to put the upstart Bulldogs back in their place. Toward evening, you get Auburn and Jawja--two ranked teams desperate to avoid a third loss. Auburn has been the luckiest team in America until fumbling twice in the closing minutes last weekend. Oh, and Gurley's back. Looks like War Eagle's luck is waning fast.
Usually for the late games, I point your attention toward the PAC12. This week, I direct your eyeballs back east for the showdown between Miami and Florida State. The thought of so many people across the country becoming temporary Miami fans has to be a distasteful idea to Husker faithful. Except for the rooting against FSU part. That is something we can get behind.
