Nebraska Leading Purdue 21-7 At Half

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

Nebraska is leading Purdue at the half after starting their first three offensive possessions deep in Purdue territory but only coming away with seven points. Nebraska scored a touchdown on one possession, turned it over on downs after a mishandled snap on another, and missed a field goal on the third.

Ameer Abdullah went out of the game with an apparent leg injury after Nebraska's second offensive possession. Nebraska as a team has taken up the slack. Tommy Armstrong Jr has six carries for 63 yards and a touchdown, Imani Cross has eight carries for 36 yards and a touchdown and Terrell Newby has six carries for 33 yards.

Both quarterbacks are having problems throwing the ball. Armstrong is 5-of-14 for 60 yards and a touchdown. Austin Appleby is 6-of-18 for 100 yards and two interceptions. That's a combined 11-of-32 between the quarterbacks, evidence of a strong fall wind at Memorial Stadium.

The teams are evenly matched on offense. Nebraska has 186 total yards, Purdue with 185. Nebraska held Purdue to three-and-out on each of its first four possessions of the day. Purdue was just 1-of-8 on third-down conversions in the first half. Nebraska entered the game ranked sixth nationally in third-down defense.
