Houston Dash select Ari Romero in NWSL expansion draft

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Big Ten Defender of the Year and 12th Husker All-American in School History is packing her bags for Houston.  After originally being assigned to the Seattle Reign, Romero was picked up by the Houston Dash in the Expansion Draft.

The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is a nine-team Division-I women's professional soccer league featuring national team players from the United States, Canada and Mexico.  Houston became the ninth team to join the NWSL which also includes the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, Seattle Reign FC, Sky Blue FC, Washington Spirit and Western New York Flash.

Playing in Houston will keep somewhat close to her hometown of Surprise, Arizona.  I am expecting to see Romero to keep getting minutes for the Mexico National team and playing in the NWSL should keep her game-ready for this year's CONCACAF Women's Championship and maybe even next year's Women's World Cup in Canada.

GO BIG RED!!!
